Friends and Neighbors –

Just 24 hours after the Arizona Supreme Court ruled on Arizona’s abortion law, I made a motion on the House floor to repeal the Territorial Law and revert to Arizona’s 15-week law. Unfortunately, a vote did not occur, but I’m confident it will – eventually.

When I ran for the Arizona House in 2022, I was very clear with my constituents – I support policies that empower women and protect new life. I support exceptions, and yes, I oppose Arizona’s territorial ban.

The territorial ban – first written in 1864 – is a policy that is unworkable, and is not reflective of the values of the vast majority of our electorate, regardless of political affiliation – regardless of whether they identify as pro-life or pro-choice. This issue transcends all.

A repeal would allow Arizona’s 15-week law to go back into effect. While I believe additional exceptions are needed, it’s far preferable to what Arizona has today or the extreme abortion access ballot measure advocates want in November. We must respect women and protect new life.

This vote on repealing the Territorial Law is one where we should be able to find common ground, and to do what’s right for the people we were elected to serve – to reject the extremes and to move past the division.

I’m calling on legislative leadership to allow this up for a vote – with urgency.
